Present and Perform.
Over the course of the year 10 Media unit students will be required to plan and create a product. Within their products and planning students are to focus on the theme of 'people'. Students are encouraged to find their own interpretation of this theme and develop this over the course of their planning.
The planning stage will be documented by the students in a folio. This will include storyboarding/mockups,location scouting and required materials. Students will also be required investigate a proposed production context, outline a budget and a timeline.
ACMI have developed a number of great resources to help inform students about the various planning stages:
-
Production: Getting Started - This resource outlines the idea development stage.
-
Production: Planning the Shoot - This resource outlines all the planning such as budgeting, management, production roles, scripting, equipment, scheduling, and checklists.
Students will need to have detailed research within their planning about the social and ethical responsibilities of their work. Here are some useful resources to help students understand their responsibilities:
-
Me We See - This video discusses the importance of audiences in online spaces.
-
Acceptable use agreement - this agreement template is developed by the DET for this use of internet, online and digital technologies.
-
Copyright Law and Ethics - ACMI developed resource discussing copyright laws and ethics.
During the creating stage students will be required to post their progress on an in school blog weekly and they must comment on at least two other students work, looking at media elements to frame their discussion. The class blog will be a great tool to help students 'distribute media artworks...and consider social, ethical and regulatory issues' (VCAA 2016)when posting their content. Furthermore, the commenting practice will enable students to develop their ability to 'analyse and evaluate a range of media artworks' (VCAA 2016).
Websites such as Wordpress can be used privately by making the class blog password protected.
At the end of the unit, the work of the students will be exhibited at a Media Arts Night that they will be involved in the organisation of. This resource looks at promotion and exhibition and can be a great starting point for students to plan the Media Arts Night.
ACARA has provided work samples that both teachers and students can look at, these can be accessed here.
