Excursions

The Australian Centre of the Moving Image [ACMI] is an excellent excursion option for Media Arts. The centre is located in Federation Square in the Melbourne CBD making it a very accessible excursion. The centre has a free museum known as screen worlds that looks at 'the past, present and future of screen mediums and digital culture' (ACMI 2017) and free exhibitions in Gallery 2. ACMI also has the Australian Mediatheque which is 'a huge collection of accessible audio and video content' (ACMI 2017),including: 

  • On-demand digital films

  • Highlights from over 100 years of Australian and international film

  • Australian television programs

  • Video artworks

  • Student and community-made short films

  • Film stills and publicity materials

The Australia Mediatheque is free to visit and can be booked for education groups.

There is also a Cinema that shows various national and international films across a range of topics,tickets are only $14 for concession.

This excursion is a workshop that can be either 1.5 hours ($16 per student) or 3 hours long ($24 per student) and is run at The Channel, Arts Centre Melbourne. The workshop teaches students design techniques that are used by professionals in the industry. During the workshop Students will look at the posters in the Art Centre Melbourne's collection. The students will then work 'in Adobe Photoshop to make a Billboard, Backlit or Tram stop poster, starring the students' pictures'(SFS 2017). This workshop will show the students great real world context for the Media Arts as well as providing them with valuable Media Arts skills they can use in their work. This excursion will support student learning within the Explore and Experiment, Media Arts Practice and Present and Perform strands within the Australian curriculum.

This excursion is a workshop that runs for 90 minutes ($16 per student) at The Channel, The Arts Centre Melbourne. The workshop is hands on and takes students through the process of creating a radio advertisement. Before the workshop students will create a script for an advertisement. At the workshop students will engage with (SFS 2017):

  • Recording voice using a microphone

  • Methods for recording and editing an advertising script

  • Basic sound design principles

  • Working with sound effects and small snippets of music to influence and persuade

This workshop will show the students great real world context for the Media Arts as well as providing them with valuable Media Arts skills they can use in their work. This excursion will support student learning within the Explore and Experiment, Media Arts Practice and Present and Perform strands within the Australian curriculum.

This excursion is a workshop that can run for either 1.5 hours or 3 hours ($24 per student)at The Channel, The Arts Centre Melbourne. The workshop engages students with the 'world of documentary films' (SFS 2017), focusing on 'concepts, planning, interview techniques, setting up cameras for different shot types, narration and sound design.' Over the course of the workshop students will experience the three stages of film making: 'pre-production, production and post-production' (SFS 2017). This workshop will provide students with valuable Media Arts skills they can use in their work. This excursion will support student learning within the Explore and Experiment, Media Arts Practice and Present and Perform strands within the Australian curriculum.
